Obama Drives Pain at the Pump
Posted by chris on Feb 16, 2012Over the past three weeks, the price of gasoline has gone up by an average of 12 cents nationwide, and is expected to break the $4 barrier for most – if not all – of the upcoming summer months. In fact, since Barack Obama took office, the average price of gas has gone up over 90%! From his inauguration day low of $1.84/gallon, President Obama has consistently seen the price at the pump rise, only to sit by idly and take no counter measures.
Despite the opportunity to approve such measures as the Keystone XL Pipeline, President Obama has instead taken large steps in the wrong direction, increasing regulations, refusing new oil exploration leases and even calling for a complete offshore drilling moratorium.
Says Fox News: Obama’s popularity could take a hit if gas prices continue to spike. “President Obama over the last three years has done everything in his power to cripple the increase in domestic supply and production. Clearly, world markets are taking a look at that and keeping prices high in response to American energy policy,” remarked Rory Cooper of the Heritage Foundation.
From Hot Air: VIDEO: Get ready for big hike in gasoline prices…
This is no one’s fault more than Barack Obama himself. He blocked the Keystone XL pipeline that could have mitigated the price of gasoline, at least in the futures market. Over the three years of his presidency, he has blocked exploration and extraction in the Gulf of Mexico as well as on shore in the US, eliminated more domestic sources of oil that would shield us from price shocks on the world stage. That shortsighted energy policy will haunt his re-election efforts — and the White House knows it. I’d expect calls for another release from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, even though the SPR doesn’t have enough to impact the long-term rise of gas prices and isn’t supposed to be used for political purposes of getting re-elected anyway.
Though the President insists that he is a ‘champion for the middle class,’ his domestic energy policies have disproportionately hurt the lower and middle classes by a substantial margin. America’s energy infrastructure has taken no significant step forward under Barack Obama’s “leadership,” and it is time for America to elect a President who will take serious measures to move our country toward energy independence and stability. After nearly four years, it is abundantly clear that this person is not Barack Obama.
