Memorial Day Message

Formerly known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day originated at the conclusion of the Civil War as a way to honor the lives of those lost on both the Union and Confederate sides of the battle. Now a Federal Holiday, Memorial Day stands as a day of remembrance for all American soldiers lost in battle.

During this year's Memorial Day on Monday, May 30, I would like to ask you all to join me in honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, as well as the brave men and women who continue to lay their lives on the line each and every day so that we may continue to experience the freedoms that America was built upon.

Fly your American flag proudly, as I surely will, and remember those who have come before us. Whether you attend a memorial, walk in a parade or simply tell a veteran "Thank You," we all must do our part to show our enduring appreciation for America's finest.

Thank you and God Bless!

Message from Chairman Sue P. Everhart - May 25, 2011

Chairman Sue Everhart

The Constitution of the United States of America laid a powerful framework to ensure that each individual living lawfully within our country received equal representation. "One person, one vote," as it is commonly referred, reflects the strong protections afforded to our citizens that continue to make America the 'Land of the Free.'

As you know, when the results of the 2010 U.S. Census were released, few states had as much reason to celebrate as the great State of Georgia. Not only did our population growth rate outpace the national average by over 60%, but Georgia's population also hit a new record with 9,687,653 citizens residing within the Peach State.

A Letter from GAGOP 1st Vice Chair: Bert Guy

I appreciate the honor to serve as your 1st Vice Chairman and look forward to working with you to keep Georgia the Reddest State in the Nation and defeat Obama next year. I believe that my work with College Republicans and local and district Republican parties and my respect for our Constitutional Rights, cultivated as an attorney, enabled me to effectively serve as your Secretary and Assistant Secretary of the Georgia Republican Party for the past 10 years.

Alfred William "Bill" Tate was born Dec 16, 1912 in Newton, AL. His grandfathers, on both sides of the family, served with the Confederate forces during the War Between the States. His Tate and Stanford ancestors established themselves in the United States before the American Revolution, and some served in that War. Bill Tate graduated in 1929 from the Baptist Collegiate Institute, Newton, AL. He entered the Southeastern Louisiana College at Hammond. Two years later transferred to Northwestern State University at Natchitoches, LA graduating with honors in 1935 with an AB degree in English and Social Studies. After graduation, he returned to Dale County, AL and started teaching in the high school at Ozark. He taught for two years during which time he met and married Edna Thagard, a resident of Ozark. Grassroots Organization Spotlight: Georgia Young Republicans

The Georgia Young Republicans (GYR) is off and running in 2011, thanks in part to a successful 2010. Last year, we elected 19 YRs to public office, including Congressmen Tom Graves and Austin Scott, proving once again that we are not the future of our party; we are its leaders today. Ranging in age from 18-40, many of you are YRs and you probably didn't know it. Our members include doctors, lawyers, teachers, entrepreneurs, and elected officials. With 13 clubs across the state, ranging in size from 10 to 270, the GYR is your "Young Professional" grassroots team. Each club has a similar purpose - to recruit new members, elect Republicans, and work to defeat Obama and the Democrats in 2012. I would like to congratulate Chairman Sue Everhart on her re-election and thank her for always making sure that we have the resources we need to succeed.

THOUSANDS OF STIMULUS RECIPIENTS FAILED TO PAY THEIR TAXES

At Least 3,700 Tax Delinquent Stimulus Recipients Received Over $24 Billion In Funds. "At least 3,700 Recovery Act contract and grant recipients-including prime recipients, subrecipients, and vendors-are estimated to owe more than $750 million in known unpaid federal taxes as of September 30, 2009, and received over $24 billion in Recovery Act funds." ("Thousands Of Recovery Act Contract And Grant Recipients Owe Hundreds Of Millions In Federal Taxes," Government Accountability Office, April 2011)

"The Real Number Might Be Higher." "The report said the tax delinquents accounted for nearly 6 percent of the 63,000 contractors and grantees examined and cautioned that the real number might be higher because the known tax debt does not measure such factors as income underreporting." (Jim Abrams, "Tax Cheats Among Recipients Of Stimulus Money," The Associated Press, 5/23/11)
