Message from Chairman Sue P. Everhart - September 7, 2011

Chairman Sue Everhart

Dear Friends,

On Thursday evening, President Obama will assemble both chambers of Congress and virtually every national media outlet to deliver yet another prime-time national address. This time, we are told, the President will unveil his long-overdue plan to create jobs in America and grow our economy back to pre-Barack levels.

Unfortunately, the only policies that President Obama supports are proven job killers. Instead of freeing American businesses to hire workers, reduce unemployment and stimulate the economy the right way, this Administration opts time and time again to punish them with massive regulations, crippling taxes and over-zealous mandates. It has become increasingly clear with each passing day that Barack Obama is the number one roadblock to job creation in America.

Helping Georgia’s Veterans Recover from This Week’s Severe Storms

Col. Larry Mrozinski, the Strategic Partner of the GAGOP Executive Committee for Veteran’s Outreach, has organized a group of Georgia’s Veterans in the “Vet to Vet“ Program to be in Woodstock and Canton this week to cut down and clear damaged trees from Monday’s severe storms for all of our Veterans who cannot afford the cost of tree removal service.

If you, or somebody you know, would like to help, please e-mail Col. Mrozinski at mrozinski6@bellsouth.net with all pertinent contact information. Thank you all for what you do, and God Bless.

Letter from State Representative Brett Harrell

Brett Harrell

Greetings Georgia Republicans!

Last Wednesday, the Special Session of the Georgia General Assembly concluded with the adoption of new maps for the U.S. Congress, Georgia Senate and House, as well as the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners and School Board. While the process must strictly follow Federal guidelines with regard to the Voting Rights Act as well as the principal of one person one vote, it remains a political process as well. Most anticipate a legal challenge to the newly adopted maps, however, I believe those leading this year’s process did so openly and in compliance with law. I anticipate and hope that any challenge will validate the new maps.

The new map for Georgia’s 14 Congressional districts (Georgia gains one new Congressman) passed and await Governor Deal’s signature. You may view the new statewide Congressional map here and a detailed view of the metro Atlanta Congressional districts is here. Maps for the State House and State Senate passed and have been signed into law. These maps will take effect in January of 2013.

Superintendent Barge: Georgia Virtual School Increases Opportunities for Students

Georgia Virtual School Increases Opportunities for Students; More Online Credit, Shared Content Among New Additions

September 6, 2011 – Georgia students now possess greater choice and flexibility in how they choose to tailor their educational experience. In July, the State Board of Education increased the amount of Carnegie units that a student is eligible to take per semester. This change no longer limits students to the one full unit per semester but increases the amount of Virtual School content available to a student per semester, and even permits students to take their entire course load through the Georgia Virtual School with FTE funding.

“My vision is to Make Education Work for All Georgians,” said State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge. “This change to allow students to take more courses through the Georgia Virtual School is a huge step toward making education work for our students.”

Help Lead the Charge Today!

With just over a year until the most critical election in our lifetimes, we must all unite for the common cause of defeating Barack Obama. As the only entity in the state that is fully committed to electing a Republican President in 2012, please consider giving $25, $35, or any amount to support our important cause today! The stakes are too high to stand on the sidelines, we need every Republican in Georgia on our winning team!

In Memoriam

Last week, the Georgia Republican Party lost a very dear friend and longtime supporter, Mrs. Lou Webb. The Fayette County Republican Party’s Vice Chair of Communications and Public Relations, Mrs. Webb took great pride in her work with the Party, and was always a smiling face on the GOP’s float in the Annual Peachtree City 4th of July Parade.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 8th, at 11:00am at the New Hope Baptists Church in Fayetteville, with a reception to follow. Interment will be on Friday, September 9th, at 12:00 Noon at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Albany, GA with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Fayette Youth Protection Home (www.fyph.org) or the scholarship fund at the University of West Georgia (www.westga.edu).

Also, the son of Pike County Republican Party Chairman Brent Taylor was tragically killed over the weekend in an automobile accident.

Though they are no longer with us, their memories will live on in the hearts of many. May they rest in peace.
