Message from Chairman Sue P. Everhart - September 21, 2011

Chairman Sue Everhart

Dear Friends,

It is an exciting time at the Georgia Republican Party! Though we are still nearly 14 months away from the pivotal elections taking place on November 6, 2012, we have already begun preparations to ensure Republican victories across the board. And though much has been accomplished, there is even more yet to be done.

In an effort to effectively and powerfully prepare our grassroots activists for the upcoming election cycles, we have begun hosting GAGOP Local Party & Precinct Training Sessions across every corner of Georgia. These sessions are designed to equip Georgia’s grassroots with all the tools needed to succeed locally, and will serve as an invaluable resource for Republicans on every level.

Grassroots Volunteer Spotlight – Charles & Louise Strickland

Chairman Sue Everhart

In September of 1963, fifty Newton County, Georgia citizens came together to form one of the first Republican organizations in the entire state. The Newton County Goldwater Club, as it was first known, brought Republican supporters together to aide Barry Goldwater in his bid for the Presidency opposite Democrat Lyndon B. Johnson. Though Goldwater would not win the election, he did manage to carry six states- and one of them was Georgia.

Two of the individuals behind the rise of the Republican movement in Georgia were Charles and Louise Strickland, a young married couple living in Covington. After the election, Mr. & Mrs. Strickland decided to move the organization forward and laid the groundwork for the Newton County Republican Party, an active group to this day.

Gilmer County GOP Chairman Invites You to get Involved!

Please review the following opportunities to get involved with the local party from Gilmer County GOP Chairman George McClellan:

The next meeting of the Gilmer County GOP will feature Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens as our guest. This area went for Sam in a big way last year because he said he would attack the unconstitutional policies of the Federal Government as they affected Georgia, especially the Obamacare nonsense that threatens to unleash its deadly poison after 2013. His efforts have resulted in the 11th US Circuit Court to declare Obama’s mandate unconstitutional. Since then he has been favorably involved in Georgia’s water problem and one or two other legal items he promised to attack.

Also, in support of the 9th District’s fund raiser, Gilmer County will host the meeting point of the two arms, East and West, of the 9th District GOP Freedom Ride on October 22nd. Refreshments will be available before both arms rally together to complete the ride to Dahlonega.

Gilmer County is located in north Georgia about 80 miles north of Atlanta. It is part of the 9th District of Georgia – third most conservative District in the country!

For more information, visit Gilmer GOP online at http://www.gilmergagop.org/.
