From The Chairman’s Desk

Dear Friends,

I would like to first and foremost wish each and every one of you a very heartfelt Happy Thanksgiving! This time spent with family, friends and loved ones is an unparalleled opportunity to cherish those nearest and dearest to us, and I hope that this holiday season brings abundant joy to you and yours.

Here at the Georgia Republican Party, we have had just over two weeks to reflect since Election Day, and it is ever-more clear that we have much to be thankful for here in the Peach State. Between our strong victories up and down the ballot on November 6th and the tremendous leaders that our Party is privileged to have across every level of government, the future of Georgia is brighter than ever.

I am also thankful to be able to serve the Republican Party here in Georgia and at the national level, and I know more than ever that it would not be possible without the dedicated grassroots team that I have been blessed to work alongside. Of special importance, I am truly grateful that our dear friend Anne Lewis had a successful surgery, and is on the speedy road to recovery. This Thanksgiving, please keep Anne in your thoughts and prayers!

Letter from Senator Saxby Chambliss

Dear Friends,

On Sept. 11, 2012, four Americans were killed in a terrorist attack on our diplomatic facilities in Bengazi, Libya. Before the election, there were many unanswered questions on Benghazi, and this week, Sen. Dianne Feinstein and I held multiple hearings to get the American people the answers they deserve.

It is clear the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence’s review will take some time, but we need to find out how the attack happened and what is being done to make sure this kind of tragedy does not happen again.

My main concerns are: How were the terrorists able to breach our diplomatic facilities? Why did the Obama administration obscure the role of al-Qaida-affiliated terrorists in its presentations to the American people? Why does there appear to be a lack of urgency in finding and holding accountable those responsible for four Americans’ deaths?

I am working hard to get these questions answered.

First Lady Sandra Deal Supports Mail for Heroes Campaign

This week, Georgia’s First Lady Sandra Deal joined the Red Cross to support the 2012 Holiday Mail for Heroes Campaign! A nationwide effort to send letter of thanks to American service members during this holiday season, the Mail for Heroes Campaign is a great effort to recognize and give thanks to our true heroes.

“Each year the American Red Cross provides assistance to more than 2 million service members and many of our nation’s 24 million veterans. We support military families, military and veterans hospitals and provide emergency communications across the globe. And once a year, we get the joy of delivering holiday cards to veterans, military families and active-duty service members at hospitals and installations around the world. The cards and personal messages, sent by tens of thousands of Americans, provide a welcome ‘touch of home’ for our troops during the holiday season.”

Isakson Urges Obama Administration to Heed Fed Chairman’s Warning

Last week, U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., urged the administration to heed Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s warning this week that overly tight lending standards are a threat to our nation’s housing recovery. Over the past two years, Isakson has repeatedly called on the administration to revise its proposed rule that would prevent responsible homebuyers from obtaining Qualified Residential Mortgages (QRMs) by requiring a 20 percent down payment.

Chairman Bernanke, in a speech to the Operation HOPE Global Financial Dignity Summit in Atlanta on Thursday, stated of the attempts to correct previously lax mortgage lending standards that it “seems likely at this point that the pendulum has swung too far the other way, and that overly tight lending standards may now be preventing creditworthy borrowers from buying homes, thereby slowing the revival in housing and impeding the economic recovery.”

Responding to Bernanke’s comments, Isakson said, “By putting into effect the 20 percent down payment requirement for Qualified Residential Mortgages, the administration is exacerbating the housing recession and preventing recovery, just as Chairman Bernanke warned yesterday. If the administration is serious about improving the economy, it cannot impose overly restrictive rules like the one that is on the table now and expect economic recovery.”

In the Headlines: Deal: Georgia won’t create health care exchanges

Georgia will not create the health insurance exchanges required under President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul and will leave that task to federal authorities, Gov. Nathan Deal said Friday.

Deal, a Republican, outlined his stance in a letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in which he criticized the Democratic health care plan for what he called its “one-size-fits-all approach” and the financial burdens it places on state governments.

“We believe that a well designed, private free-market approach to small business exchanges could be beneficial to small businesses but the regulations promulgated by your administration take those options away,” Deal wrote to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

A Thanksgiving Message – “City on a Hill”

Please enjoy John Winthrop’s Early Blessing of Thanksgiving, given in 1630 and passed along tihs year by Bettye Chambers…

“Now the only way to avoid this shipwreck and to provide for our posterity is to follow the Counsel of Micah, to do Justly, to love mercy, to walk humbly with our God, for this end, we must be knit together in this work as one man, we must entertain each other in brotherly Affection, we must be willing to abridge our selves of our superfluities, for the supply of others necessities, we must uphold a familiar Commerce together in all meekness, gentleness, patience and liberality, we must delight in each other, make others Conditions our own rejoice together, mourn together, labor, and suffer together,

always having before our eyes our Commission and Community in the work, our Community as members of the same body, so shall we keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace, the Lord will be our God and delight to dwell among us, as his own people and will command a blessing upon us in all our ways, so that we shall see much more of his wisdom power goodness and truth then formerly we have been acquainted with, we shall find that the God of Israel is among us, when ten of us shall be able to resist a thousand of our enemies, when he shall make us a praise and glory, that men shall say of succeeding plantations: the lord make it like that of New England:

for we must Consider that we shall be as a City upon a Hill, the eyes of all people are upon us; so that if we shall deal falsely with our God in this work we have undertaken and so cause him to withdraw his present help from us, we shall be made a story and a byword through the world, we shall open the mouths of enemies to speak evil of the ways of God and all professors for Gods sake; we shall shame the faces of many of Gods worthy servants, and cause their prayers to be turned into Curses upon us till we be consumed out of the good land whether we are going: And to shut up this discourse with that exhortation of Moses that faithful servant of the Lord in his last farewell to Israel Deut. 30.

Beloved there is now set before us life, and good, death and evil in that we are Commanded this day to love the Lord our God, and to love one another to walk in his ways and to keep his Commandments and his Ordinance, and his laws, and the Articles of our Covenant with him that we may live and be multiplied, and that the Lord our God may bless us in the land whether we go to possess it: But if our hearts shall turned away so that we will not obey, but shall be seduced and worship other Gods our pleasures, and profits, and serve them, it is propounded unto us this day, we shall surely perish out of the good Land whether we pass over this vast Sea to possess it;

Therefore let us choose life, That we, and our Seed, May live; by obeying his Voice, and cleaving to him, For he is our life, and Our prosperity.”

Help Lead the Charge Today!

In the shadow of the reelection of Barack Obama, Georgians should stand evermore resolved to spread our message and return America to prosperity, strength, hard work and the American Dream. Georgians took a stand on November 6th by giving our electoral votes to the Romney/Ryan ticket, electing a new Republican Congressman in Doug Collins, and re-electing our two PSC Commissioners while strengthening our majorities in the Georgia General Assembly!

Our state still holds the ideals that this country was founded on and we proved that on Election Day. However, we saw that the course of our country is significantly changing. We must now continue our fight to take back our America and continue moving Georgia forward!

The threat is real and the fight has just begun. Please consider contributing $15, $25, $50 or any amount to help Georgia spread our message far and wide!
