Message from Chairman Sue P. Everhart – May 9, 2012

Chairman Sue Everhart

Dear Friends,

Next weekend in Columbus, we will elect 31 At-Large Delegates and 31 At-Large Alternates to represent Georgia at the 2012 Republican National Convention. These At-Large Delegates and Alternates will join the District Delegates and Alternates to the National Convention that were elected back in April. All together, Georgia boasts 76 Delegates to this year’s Republican National Convention – the fourth-largest Delegation in the entire nation!

It was also announced last week that Georgia has been assigned to the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay as our Host Hotel for the duration of the 2012 Republican National Convention! The Georgia Republican Party will be coordinating the logistics of the Convention stay for our Delegation, and all elected Delegates and Alternates should work directly with the Party on securing all accommodations. More information will be forthcoming.

Letter from Georgia YR Chairman Cameron Fash

GACR

Are you better off now than you were four years ago? The Georgia Young Republicans (GYR) are.

Four years ago, when I was elected Chairman, our organization was struggling. Our statewide membership was dismal, we had very little money, and hardly any respect. After developing a new vision, unifying as a team, and countless hours of supporting Republican candidates, the GYR have turned this once faltering organization into the premier Young Republican organization in America.

In just a few years, we more than doubled our statewide membership and increased the number of YR clubs across Georgia by 70 percent. In 2010, over two dozen Young Republicans in Georgia were elected to public office, including seats in Congress, State Senate, State House, numerous municipal offices and courtrooms. That number is expected to increase in 2012. In November 2011, the GYR were honored to host the YRNF Fall Board Meeting in Atlanta. This was the first time since 1995 that Georgia was awarded such an event. Thanks to the hard work of our great team, we pulled off the finest Board Meeting in recent years. Our event with Herman Cain was broadcast live across the nation, and over 2 million viewers were introduced to the Young Republicans with a Georgia Young Republicans banner and logo as the backdrop. No YR event has ever generated that much positive publicity.

Mother’s Day Memories from First Lady Sandra Deal

Most of my memories of my mother, Ida Lou Waldrep Dunagan, involve music. I have special memories listening to her play “Under the Double Eagle” on the piano, and singing hymns at church. Along with my mother, my sister and I often volunteered to sing for churches, clubs, funerals, fundraisers, etc. Mother always led groups to sing Christmas carols in the neighborhood, or perform at nursing homes as well. It was through her musical talents that she was able to encourage others, and bring much joy into my life and into the lives of many others.

Mother taught us to respect all people, to be sure to smile, and to be gracious no matter what. She showed us through good habits the importance of being kind and loving one another. Through mandatory church attendance, lessons from Scripture, and hymns, she taught us strong morals we would come to use our whole lives. Each of these was a constant reminder in our home of the lives we were supposed to lead. It was because of her influence that we learned to enjoy hard work. She encouraged us to believe in ourselves and that no goal was out of reach. Wealth to Mother was established through good relationships and watching people achieve success. She taught me that our value in life is determined by the contributions and impact we leave in the lives of others. I am truly blessed to have had such a good example and teacher as my mother.

I hope that the memories of my mother will help you reflect on the similar qualities and contributions of your own. This Mother’s Day, be sure to say “Thank You” to your mother. If you too are a mother, may you be comforted by your children as they recognize the contributions you have made in their lives. Happy Mother’s Day!

Paulding County GOP Names 2nd Annual Young Conservative Scholar

The Paulding County GOP is pleased to announce Daniel Caro as this year’s recipient of the annual Young Conservative Scholar Award. Daniel’s essay on the connection between the First Amendment and personal freedom also earned him the $500 scholarship that comes with the title of Young Conservative Scholar.

“Daniel’s academic excellence, as well as his demonstrated commitment to helping those in need, exemplifies the leadership qualities we hope to foster with this scholarship,” says PCGOP Chairman Joseph Gullett.

“Daniel’s essay on the importance of the First Amendment as it relates to individual liberty showed us that he is a young man who has given thoughtful consideration to the meaning of the constitution in our daily lives,” Gullett adds.

Caro, who is headed to Georgia Tech this fall, has been a star student throughout his high school career. A dynamic young man with a wide range of interests, Caro lettered in high school tennis while also participating in organizations such as DECA, BETA Club and the Spanish Honor Society. In addition to this full schedule of school and extracurricular activities, Caro has remained actively involved in his church, including mission trips to Peru and Brazil.

GAGOP Chairman Everhart Statement on Vice President Biden’s Campaign Trip to Atlanta

ATLANTA – This week, Georgia Republican Party Chairman Sue P. Everhart released the following statement regarding Vice President Joe Biden’s two-day campaign swing through Atlanta:

“After nearly four years of failed policies from the Obama Administration, the last thing that Georgians are interested in is another campaign speech devoid of all substance. President Obama and Vice President Biden have wreaked havoc on America’s middle class, and Georgians have felt the pain from the gas station to the grocery store and everywhere in between. The fact of the matter is that the Obama Administration’s first term in the White House has been an unequivocal failure; Georgians are ready for real leadership in Washington, not more vague campaign slogans, empty rhetoric and broken promises.”

Help Lead the Charge Today!

The Georgia Republican Party is fully committed to electing a Republican President in 2012. However, Victory won’t be achieved simply because we won the last elections. Victory can only be achieved by working hard each and every day to win the next elections. President Obama and the Democrats are targeting Georgia and could spend as much as $30 million to win our state. There’s too much at stake to leave this election to chance. Please consider contributing $15, $25, $50 or any amount to help Georgia do its part to send Barack Obama back to Chicago!
