Weekly Quote

“Our greatest happiness does not depend on the condition of life in which chance has placed us, but is always the result of a good conscience, good health, occupation, and freedom in all just pursuits.”

- Thomas Jefferson

This Week in History

On June 4th, 1919, the United States Senate passed the 19th Amendment by a 56-25 vote, paving the way for the ratification of the Amendment by the states and ultimately bringing a long-awaited end to women’s suffrage across the United States of America. The 19th Amendment reads as follows: “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”

The right to vote is a sacred and constitutionally-protected right for all eligible citizens in America, and it is a right that we work to protect and defend each and every day. Women are a powerful, influential voting bloc all across our country, and will continue to consistently exercise their Democratic right to participate and vote in our elections.

Would you like to get involved with like-minded Republican women across Georgia and our nation as we gear up for this year’s ever-important election cycle? If so, visit the Georgia Federation of Republican Women at www.gfrw.org and the Republican National Committee Women at www.rncwomen.com.

Message from Chairman Sue P. Everhart – June 6, 2012

Chairman Sue Everhart

Dear Friends,

On this day in 1944, General Dwight D. Eisenhower sent a message to our Allied troops just prior to the infamous military campaign that will be forever remembered as D-Day. In his message, General Eisenhower humbly told our brave troops:

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Letter from Georgia Teen Republicans Chairman Brennan Mancil

GACR

Fellow Republicans,

Hello! My name is Brennan Mancil, and this past Saturday I was fortunate enough to be elected to the position of Chairman for the Georgia Teen Republicans. As an important youth political organization, GATRS is charged with the mission to spread the conservative ideology and Republican message throughout the state.

It takes a lot of work to do this, especially among America’s most apathetic voting bloc: 18 through 21 year olds. By laying down the right roots at a crucial time in growing up, GATRS encourages the development and internalization of the values instilled in our nation by our forefathers.

I have been given the pleasure to lead our organization to fulfilling these lofty yet achievable goals, and I look forward to working with the Georgia Republican Party in make sure our party works together to empower Republicans across the state.

From Wisconsin to November – Scott Walker Wins Gubernatorial Recall Election!

Last night, by a 53% – 46% margin, Governor Scott Walker outlasted Democratic challenge Tom Barrett in Wisconsin’s gubernatorial recall election. Though vital for the State of Wisconsin, this election has implications much wider that point directly towards November 6th.

Georgia Republican Party Chairman Sue P. Everhart released the following statement regarding Governor Scott Walker’s decisive victory:

“I would like to personally congratulate Governor Scott Walker on his victory in today’s gubernatorial recall election in Wisconsin. The voice of the Badger State was heard loud and clear at the polls: Governor Walker’s stellar record of job creation, tax reduction and bold reform has truly changed the way that Wisconsin does business, and voters have taken notice.

“From Georgia to Wisconsin, Republican Governors continue to champion pro-jobs policies, while simultaneously growing the economy and shrinking the size of government through common-sense reforms. As we move forward towards November and beyond, it is my sincere hope that our Party continues to elect strong, bold leaders in the likeness of Governor Walker from the top of the ticket to the very bottom.”

8 Years Later: Remembering President Ronald Reagan

The Georgia Republican Party honors and remembers President Ronald Reagan, who passed away on this week eight years ago. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy is carried on through our Party each and every day, and continues to guide us forward.

In November, we will win one for “The Gipper!”

Grassroots Activist of the Week: Debbie McCord

GACR

I am a lifelong Republican. My passion for politics began as a young child in Texas, helping my dad canvass neighborhoods for Goldwater and other candidates and spending Saturday afternoons passing out fliers for GOP candidates at one of the many Rodeo Days in the small towns around Corpus Christi. When my family moved to Georgia in the mid-60’s, my first political memory here was watching the Georgia Legislature elect Lester Maddox to be Governor over Republican Howard “Bo” Calloway.

After graduating from Emory University, I lived outside of Georgia for several years. My daughters and I returned to Evans, Georgia in 1986. I have been actively involved with the Columbia County Republican Party, my District Party (I haven’t moved, but the Districts have changed several times), and the GAGOP since returning to Columbia County.

An accountant by training, I am a Financial Analyst for the Savannah River National Laboratory. My non-political activities include First Baptist Church, United Way, the Humane Society, Leadership Columbia County, and the Columbia County Charities Gala.

My family includes my two daughters, Megan Seda and Heather Varner; son-in-law Jason Varner; the world’s greatest grandson, Caiden Seda, 4 rescue pups; 2 grand-dogs, and 3 grand-cats.

12th District GOP Candidates Debate

On Monday evening, the Republican candidates in Georgia’s 12th Congressional District squared off in a Debate in Vidalia. Please enjoy the followig recap from Lawton Sack, Chairman of the 12th District GOP:

A filled auditorium witnessed the congressional candidate debate on Monday, June 5, 2012 at Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia between the four Republican candidates vying to replace John Barrow from Georgia’s beautiful 12th District. The debate was hosted by the Toombs County Republican Party (Jim Collins, Chair) in conjunction with the Montgomery County Republican Party (Mike Gibbs, Chair) and the Vidalia Tea Party Patriots.

The candidates involved in the debate were Rick W. Allen, Rep. Lee Anderson, Wright McLeod, and Maria Sheffield. The debate was moderated by Zack Fowler, the General Manager of Vidalia Communications. Most of the questions were asked by the four panelists: Jim Anderson, Vidalia Tea Party Patriot Leader, Elliott Echols, Immediate Past President of the GA College Republicans, Jim Galloway, AJC Columnist, and Charlie Harper, editor of Peach Pundit and Dublin Courier Herald columnist. Several questions were also submitted by those in attendance.

Numerous topics were covered during the 1.5 hour debate, including the economy and jobs, education, immigration, tax Reform, Obamacare and federal deficit and debt ceiling.

We are excited about the opportunity to finally replace John Barrow in GA-12. The candidates showed Monday night that they were prepared on the issues and are ready to work together to defeat John Barrow. We hope that the statewide GAGOP will be partner with us this fall to remove John Barrow from office and bring the number of Republican Representatives from Georgia to ten.

In Memoriam

On June 1st, the Georgia Republican Party lost a dear friend and colleague, Mr. James W. Mock, Sr. of Marietta.

A 24-year veteran and Sgt. Major in the U.S. Army, Mr. Mock served our country courageously in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, and was awarded the Bronze Star. A dedicated and life-long Republican, he served in many capacities with the Cobb County Republican Party, and was a close friend of many within the Georgia Republican Party.

Mr. Mock is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret, six children, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org or to FurKids, a no kill animal shelter, at www.furkids.org.

Rest in peace, our friend. Your presence will be sorely missed.

Help Lead the Charge Today!

The Georgia Republican Party is fully committed to electing a Republican President in 2012. However, Victory won’t be achieved simply because we won the last elections. Victory can only be achieved by working hard each and every day to win the next elections. President Obama and the Democrats are targeting Georgia and could spend as much as $30 million to win our state. There’s too much at stake to leave this election to chance. Please consider contributing $15, $25, $50 or any amount to help Georgia do its part to send Barack Obama back to Chicago!
