ATLANTA – In response to the Georgia General Assembly’s release of the proposed state legislative redistricting maps, Georgia Republican Party Chairman Sue P. Everhart issued the following statement:
“The Georgia Republican Party is incredibly proud of the work that Senator Seabaugh, Representative Lane and all the Republican legislative leaders involved in this process have done with the proposed new maps for the Georgia General Assembly.
“In sharp contrast to the hatchet job the Democratic Party did on the people of Georgia ten years ago, these new maps proposed by the Republican Redistricting Chairmen adhere to the principles of redistricting and best represents the changes in our state over the last ten years. The Republicans in the legislature have done the job right and handled it in a fair, open and constitutional process.
“Also in contrast to the Democrats’ assault on the voters in 2001, these maps have been released to the public in advance of the special session, and these maps just plain look good.
“While the Democrats embarrassed our state 10 years ago, Republicans have made us proud.
“I look forward to having a good laugh at the predictable hypocritical attacks by the very Democrats who insulted our state 10 years ago, and look even more forward to a quick passage of this impressive Republican effort.”
