WHEREAS, the purpose of civil government is to preserve the fundamental rights of its citizens, not to control the private marketplace; and
WHEREAS, in founding our Republic, the states gave the federal government only those limited powers that are specified in the U.S. Constitution; and
WHEREAS, the Georgia Republican Party has great concern for the extreme levels of spending and the excessive amount of debt; and
WHEREAS, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, approved by a narrow vote in Congress last year, threatens to transform the U.S. health-care system from its roots in free enterprise and personal choice and the Act is unconstitutional due to its unprecedented requirement that Americans purchase a service; now therefore be it
RESOLVED, by the Georgia Republican Party that we, as a people, a state and a nation return to the values of individual responsibility, accountability and limited government; and be it further
RESOLVED that the Georgia Republican Party supports fundamental fiscal and tax reform by the federal government that would maximize personal freedom and allow for the engine of America’s private marketplace to thrive. We further believe that the most favorable opportunity to achieve these goals is the enactment of a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the enactment of a flat rate income tax or the FairTax.
